BRITAIN’S premier magician promises an evening of laughter and illusion.
Paul Daniels, whose name is as synonymous with magic as the words “abracadabra” and “alakazam”, will take to the stage at the Rhyl Pavilion on October 12.
He will perform as part of his “Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow” tour alongside his son Martin, an accomplished illusionist in his own right, and the glamorous Debbie McGee.
In a career spanning four decades, Mr Daniels has conjured his way onto national television, but his first love was always live performance.
He said: “All the comments we’ve had so far have been fantastic. Afterwards, people say ‘I never knew it would be that funny’. They don’t expect so much comedy - they say they laughed more at us than at the comedians.”
Mr Daniels would not give away many details about the show, as he adapts his performance to the venue, but he will be joined on stage by a new special guest.
He said: “We now have Hopper Seven - she’s in the show - and we have the wackiest way to produce a rabbit you will ever see in your life.”
The showbiz couple, who have worked side by side for two decades, seem a long way from retiring.
Debbie said: “We are really enjoying the tour. It’s lovely, we’re having a lot of giggles. We’ve been to Rhyl a few times, and it’s one of the friendliest theatres in the land.
“Paul’s son Martin did panto in Rhyl so it has very fond memories. We’re looking forward to coming back. If you’re feeling low and want a laugh, come along and be baffled along the way.”
There has been a small screen resurgence of interest in illusion and stage trickery over the last few years, with the success of Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Derren Brown’s mind-boggling mentalist tricks, but Mr Daniels said the classic tradition remains strong.
He said: “Magic has always been around - it’s just that television goes in waves. Television is the big advert, but the best shows are never on TV. Go and see the live show, as that’s in 3D.”
