RHYL continued their hard-hitting start to the season by earning local bragging rights over Abergele in a 47-6 victory.
But despite the heavy scoreline, the two sides were well matched until well into the second half, with a fiery derby atmosphere contributing to a solid game of rugby.
First blood went to Abergele with an early penalty, but Rhyl bounced back as a blind side move saw Kriss Wilkes touch down in the corner.
Another kick over the posts saw Gele strike back, but Wilkes again put his side in charge with a superb solo try to complete the first half’s scoring.
From there on only one side of the scoreboard changed as Rhyl stepped up their attacks, with an early try from winger Jack Hughes and a superb score under the posts by young stand off Jason Blackmore putting the visitors in command.
The forwards then weighed in, with Rob Tilley scoring on his debut and a pair of close range run-ins from second row Dale Blackmore.
Rhodri Carlton Jones also sent over six conversions to bolster the bonus point scoreline, leaving Rhyl second in the table with a 100% record.
Rhyl take a break from league action next week with a trip to mid Wales to play Knighton in the cup. A coach will be travelling for any supporters who wish to support the team.
Rhyl Seconds meanwhile let a lead slip in their weekend fixture against Colwyn Bay, with scorching conditions forcing both sides to take a 20 minute break midway through the game due to sweltering conditions at The Waen.
Chris Felcrest opened the scoring for Rhyl, and though the Bay struck back on the half hour mark, Jonathan Jones slipped though a number of tackles to tack on a second try, with Simon Field converting for a 12-5 lead.
But a second half onslaught from the Bay saw them take control, with three unanswered tries securing the points for the visitors.
