A TANKER and a fishing vessel have collided 20 miles west of the coast of Anglesey.

The Ocean Lady tanker, bound for Milford Haven, collided with a fishing trawler called the Bridget Carmel at 3.16am this morning.

Holyhead Coastguards were alerted to the incident after intercepting radio communications between the two vessels and the Holyhead lifeboat was dispatched.

A Coastguard spokesman said: “The fishing vessel did sustain some damage but luckily it was not below the water line.”

There were no reported injuries as a result of the collision although the spokesman said the tanker failed to stop after the incident, despite a radio exchange between the two vessels.

The spokesman also confirmed that a full investigation into the collision will take place later today.
