JESS Williams underlined her potential by becoming Welsh ladies’ under 25s champion at the national bowls finals day in Llanelli.
The event showcased the bowling talent in Powys, with the Llandrindod Wells and Berriew clubs dominating the medals table.
Llandrindod Wells bowler Jess Williams had the last laugh with a 15-9 victory over Berriew’s Emma Gittins in the final to ensure her club beat rivals Berriew in the medal list.
Meanwhile Berriew’s Caroline Taylor was crowned the queen of Welsh bowls after winning the singles final.
The Berriew bowler stunned final favourite Wendy Price of Llandrindod Wells 21-15 to take the coveted prize.
Wendy Price teamed up with Betty Morgan in the final of the pairs, with the Llandrindod Wells duo completing a 23-15 win over Berriew’s Hazel Wilson and Kathy Pearce.
Welsh Ladies’ national team manager Hazel Wilson praised the hard work of clubs throughout the region for the ongoing success of its bowlers.
“There is a great competitive spirit across bowls in this area and it has helped increase standards,” said Wilson.
“At Berriew there is a healthy rivalry with other local clubs and I am sure this has helped.
“It was brilliant to see three of the national finals being contested by bowlers from this region and long may it continue.
“Promoting Mid Wales bowls on a national level is what every club is motivated by and we have the talent coming through to ensure this region of Wales continues to be represented.”
