FOURTEEN children were taken to hospital after a wasp attack during a school outing.

Pupils from Ysgol Llandrillo yn Rhos were taken to Colwyn Bay Hospital by ambulance as a precautionary measure after the children were buzzed by a swarm of wasps during a visit to Bryn Euryn nature reserve, Rhos on Sea. None had serious reactions to the stings.

The pupils were visiting the reserve as part of the school's forest school program, the aim of which is to encourage independent learning and foster enthusiasm and curiosity for the outdoors.

Mrs Sharon Davies, head teacher at the school, said: "The children were superb - it was just unfortunate that it happened on our first nature school. But as it was, it was fine, and the children were fine."

She said that a second class visited the site during the afternoon without incident, with another two classes visiting the reserve on Friday.
