TEENS across Denbighshire are celebrating their exam results today.
GCSE grades gained in schools including Prestatyn High, Blessed Edward Jones in Rhyl, Rhyl High School and Ysgol Glan Clwyd in St Asaph, show an “outstanding” improvement on 2010.
A Denbighshire spokeswoman said early analysis of the results recorded by schools show that the percentage of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs graded A* to C or equivalent has improved significantly this year to 72.4 per cent.
This is an increase of more than 11 per cent on last year.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Education, said: “The results this year really are excellent and show, along with the improved A level results achieved last week, that Denbighshire is rapidly moving in the right direction and is improving at a faster rate than the Welsh average. We plan to continue to do so.
Cllr Williams said the results were a testament to the authority’s commitment to improving standards of education, and that the efforts were making a real difference to young people.
He said: “I would like to congratulate all students who have achieved the grades needed to further their education.”
