RHYL SPRINT sensation Chloe Jones has been rewarded for a superb debut hurdles season with a place in the Wales squad for this weekend’s Celtic Games.
The 16 year old Rhyl High School pupil, who finished fifth in the UK School International in Cardiff last month, will compete in the games on August 13 in the 100m hurdles event.
The national slot marks a remarkable season for Chloe, who first took up the discipline last October.
"I am delighted and honoured to represent my country in Ireland and after a successful debut season, which I achieved more than I hoped. I will be looking forward to competing next year.” she said.
Chloe will also be competing for Sale Harriers in the Young Athletes UK Final in Birmingham on September 4.
THREE Abergele Harriers were in action in Sale on Sunday in Sale Harriers’ annual 10 mile road race.
Dewi Roberts lead the trio home in 58mins 45secs for 25th position overall despite having to stop with cramp mid-race.
Gareth Roberts, also running very well at present, was just ten positions further back, finishing thirteen seconds the wrong side of the hour.
Unfortunately, Josh Dixon had to pull out after only two miles.
Meanwhile plans are at an advanced stage, with entries already rolling in, for the upcoming Abergele 5 road race, which this year not only includes the North Wales 5 mile road championships, but also for the first time includes a Corporate Challenge.

PRESTATYN Running Club’s two in-form veteran ladies Shelley Ward and Brenda Tiedtke had their own personal duel in the Deestriders Off-Road Grand Prix race in Shotton.
Despite Shelley having just returned from holiday and Brenda enduring a long distance bike ride that morning, both worked hard over the five mile course, with the former securing victory in the race.
Dean Longley again led the contingent home finishing a minute faster than in his previous race.
Also finishing for the club were George Nicholls, Des Davies, Steve Hatfield and Sharon Jones.
Griff Owens, who has been suffering with a knee injury, had to settle for second place in the M60 class at Sunday’s Sale 10 but still clocked an excellent 1hr 2min exactly for 53rd overall.
The club’s over-70s trio of Ronald and Roger Harrison-Jones and Dave Hughes had yet another tussle in the Gobowen 5-miler, with Roger this time overhauling his brother to claim victory. He clocked 39min 49sec, finishing 21 seconds ahead of Ronald, with Dave third of the trio in 40min 49sec.
Once again David Owen was the club’s only representative in the Garn fell-race at Rhyd Ddu, finishing 27th overall with a time of 51min 31sec.
The club’s annual Rhewl Run near Ruthin, which is followed by a meal in the Drovers’ Arms, will be held on August 24.
