THE HEAD ranger at the Elan Valley has hung up his safari hat for the last time as he retires after 24 years.
Pete Jennings recently led his 317th and last birdwatching safari in the Elan Valley.
Over the years Pete has given guided tours to 2,340 birdwatchers and helped them to spot 120 different bird species.
Now Pete is retiring as head ranger and site manager of the Elan Valley at the end of June.
The ranger has overseen huge changes in the Valley including the creation of the Elan Valley Trail, the Cnwch Nature Trail, the Elan Woodlands Special Area of Conservation and the building of the new visitor centre in 1997.
