Captain's day for the 'Gilers'

St Giles

CAPTAIN Andrew Stanley hosted an excellent Captain’s Day at St Giles Golf Club when 90 members took part.


The best gross was recorded by Kevin Edwards with 73 to just edge out Alan Williams and Neil Lewis on 74.


The nett medal was won by Emlyn Evans who beat fellow left-hander Ian Jones on a countback, after both shot 66, with Mike Davies third with 67.


John Evans won the stableford with 39 points and beat runner-up Lee Davies with 38 points to push Thomas Evans into third on the countback.


John Evans also picked up the Past Captain’s Cup to complete a good day of golf.


The seniors’ June medal was keenly contested by a strong field and in a close climax just two shots covered the leading six veterans.


A card playoff saw Tony Hall claim top spot from John Cufley and Graham Evans, after they had all posted two under par rounds of 68.


This Saturday St Giles travel to old traditional sporting rivals Llanidloes in a Montgomeryshire League match.

Llanymynech


RUSSELL Bonner (14) went home with the Jubilee Tray with a nett 63 seeing off the challenge of Ben Davies (24) in second with a nett 65.


Third place belonged to Lloyd Roberts (8) who ended with a nett 68.

Maesmawr


BERNIE Evans (14) went home with the green jacket after his two under par 79 secured the 27 hole Members’ Masters.


Iestyn Ap Dafydd (22) was runner-up with 82, with Ashley Dewinton-Davies (6) third with 83.


Meanwhile Jacob Mason (20) beat brother Duncan (24) to top spot with a four under par 50 in the latest round of the Summer Nett/Gross League.


His brother ended with a two under 52 to edge Terry Foulkes (23) into third on the countback.


The gross league saw Ashley Dewinton-Davies first with 65, Jacob Mason second with 70 and Cliff Jefferies ending third with 71.

Welshpool


NEIL Pritchard (16) won the James Turner Shield with a score of 66 edging out Dwain Evans (10) with 68 and Chris Proctor (23) with 69.


Sunday’s AM-AM Team Competition saw a huge entry from all over Mid Wales going head to head with the winning team of Andrew Watkin, Charlie Birch, Dean Bowen and Will Pritchard beating off the challenge of John Woods, Alan Owen, Pat Burke and Graham Moss, after both ended with 118 points.

St Idloes


HUSBAND and wife team Percy and Angela Jones won the Felindre Shield with a nett 70.5 to narrowly see off the threat of Huw Turner and Tricia Tonking, who finished in second with 71.


Third place belonged to Sandra Edwards and Cradoc Evans with 71.5.
Brian Murray’s 38 point haul was enough to win the Centenary Cup, with Rhys Evans coming in second with 37 and Marc Poulter-Ray third with 36.
