A CAT had its leg broken and was shot in the face during a harrowing attack in Rhuddlan.
Two-year-old Sooty was discovered by his owner Jeanette Holmes in the garden of her home in Castle Street unable to walk and with blood streaming from his mouth.
The black cat was rushed to a vet in Denbigh after collapsing and underwent an operation to repair his broken front leg and remove a pellet from under his right eye.
Sooty is confined to a cage and is now recovering at home as police launch an investigation to find his attackers.
“The people who did this are disgusting pigs,” said Jeanette.
“I honestly do not know what they were thinking. I expect it was a game of fun which went too far.”
The attack took place on May 30 and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
“He’s still in his cage and we keep him indoors,” said Jeanette.
“He goes back for a check-up at the vets this week.”
Jeanette said the attack on Sooty had upset her family including her nine-year-old daughter Emily and Jeanette’s father.
She explained Sooty shared the house with two other pets including a dog and another cat, but admitted Sooty’s willingness to approach strangers may have resulted in his attack.
“The other cat and dog have been fine. Sooty is just so friendly with people.”
Anyone who may know how the cat sustained the injury should call PCSO
