TWO RHYL PEOPLE say they are “honoured” to have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Paul Frost, Deputy 2nd Coxswain, for the Rhyl RNLI and Cllr Joan Butterfield who serves on Rhyl Town Council have been appointed MBE for their voluntary work in the community.

Mr Frost, who actively serving on the lifeboat and being directly involved in saving lives at sea, also acts as the Lifeboat Press Officer.

He has volunteered for the crew for more than 40 years.

He said: “It is a great honour to receive this award, and reflects the hard work of the crew.”

Mr Frost is following in his mother footsteps who was appointed an MBE in 2008, for her fundraising work in the Rhyl Lifeboat shop.

Cllr Butterfield, former mayor of Rhyl, said she was “very emotional” when she received the letter informing her of her appointment.

She said: “It was a surprise. It’s a really strange thing. Part of me is really puffed up and proud, but when you think about it, I’ve worked in the community my whole adult life and all that time I’ve worked with hundreds and hundreds of people.

“It’s a co-operative effort all over the years. All these things didn’t just happen because of one person. It’s quite humbling to be the one to receive an honour.”

Cllr Butterfield thanked her friends, family and residents for their good wishes and congratulations.

She said: “The phone hasn’t stopped ringing. It’s really nice that people have such kind thoughts.”

Mr Frost and Cllr Butterfield will attend the investiture ceremony later this year.
