ANDREW Spink shot a splendid 74-14=60 to head the 32 qualifiers for Ruthin-Pwllglas Golf Club’s Castle Cup.
On a weekend of impressive scoring he finished a stroke clear of Tudor Foulkes, whose 80-19=61 topped the 13-24 handicap category from secretary Neil L Roberts, 77-13=64, and D J Hughes, 83-18=65.
Dylan Jones had two twos as he fired an excellent 68-6=62 to lead the 0-12 category from Kevin Roberts, 75-10=65, with Nigel Roberts third with 74-8=66.
Shot of the day was by ex-club captain Geoff Gill who pitched in for an eagle two on the 300-yard par-four sixth.
Meanwhile, veteran Corwen left-hander Ken Wright was on target as he fired three birdie twos on his way to a nett 60 to win the Rover Cup.
The 12-handicapper shot a gross 72 for a six-under par round to win by two shots from another old stager Eric Owen, 75-13=62, who led the 13-24 handicap category from Tudor Davies, 78-15=63, and Mike Brady, 85-20=65.
Retired barber John Lewis shaved a shot from par with a 72-7=65 to win the 0-12 category from Alan Bryan, 74-8=66, and D Neil Roberts, 75-9=66.
