A DISABLED grandfather was viciously assaulted while walking with his grandchildren in a park.
The 51-year-old from Mold was walking through Bellevue Park in Wrexham at about 4.30pm on Monday when he heard a group of men arguing.
As he started to usher his grandchildren, aged two and six, away from the shouting, a football hit the man, who asked not to be named, on his head.
When the man, who suffers from acute arthritis and psoriasis, then asked the group to be careful because of his grandchildren and wife, one of the gang attacked him.
He said: “After he punched me the first time he kicked my dog and then two of them kicked and punched me a second time.”
The man, who fell down on the floor during the attack, was left with a black eye, bleeding from his right ear and bruising at the back of his head and around his face.
He told the Leader: “I feel it’s not safe to go to that park with my grandchildren any more.
“I was shaken up afterwards, I’ve never had a fight since I was a kid.”
But the victim said he was more concerned about his grandchildren following the attack than himself.
“They were extremely upset,” he said. The grandfather said his dog was also terrified by the attack and now won’t leave his side.
The man reported the attack to the police, who are investigating.
