A REVAMPED radio station at Glan Clwyd hospital has seen a hint of Hollywood after being used as a film set.
After a fund raising effort, the Glan Clwyd radio studio has had a refit at the start of August bringing it up to date with new equipment and decor.
Toward the end of the refit, the radio station committee were asked whether they would allow the studio to be used as a set for a scene in Vinyl.
The film tells the true story of Mike Peters and The Alarm who fooled the music industry after releasing a spoof record.
The film is currently being shot on location around Rhyl by director Sara Sugarman, who also directed Very Annie Mary and Disney’s Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.
Brenda Jones, of Glan Clwyd Hospital Radio said: “We agreed and after turning our studio into a pretend one in London, with the walls covered in red drapes and special lighting effects, we were lent out for the day as were other departments all over the hospital.”
Studio manager Chris Reeves and Brenda both helped out as extras in one of the scenes.
Brenda said: “Everything went well and having known Sara since she was 12 years old she agreed to come and give me an interview on my show on air for the patients of Glan Clwyd Hospital and recently connected Maelor Hospital in Wrexham.”
The live interview with Sara and her friend, actor Michael Byrne who plays the role of Gail’s father on Coronation Street, took place last week.
Brenda said: “Between them we had a lot of fun created for the entertainment for the patients. I also played some music Sara loved to hear whilst she was growing up in Rhyl before she eventually left to seek out her career in the film business.
“The members of the Glan Clwyd radio station wish her all the best with the continued filming of Vinyl .”
