THE acclaimed Richard Iles/Tim France Quintet - boasting a trumpet and sax frontline - makes its first appearance in Waen this month for the first in a new series of jazz concerts.

During his musical career, trumpeter Richard Iles has performed in bands of many different jazz styles and with numerous well-known musicians, including Kenny Wheeler, Anthony Braxton, Vince Mendoza and Bill Frisell.

For five years Richard co-led the 18 piece Richard Iles/Andy Schofield Jazz Orchestra, which aimed to recapture the flair and originality of the great bands of the past.

In 2006, his Miniature Brass Emporium performed a concert at Manchester Jazz Festival recorded live for BBC Radio’s Jazz on 3, and Richard performed at the 2007 festival with iconic sax player John Surman.

Richard Iles will be coming to North Wales fresh from a tour with the Tommy Smith directed Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and the great vibes player Gary Burton before touring again next year with the legendary John Schofield.

Completing the double-horn front line of the band is alto sax player Tim France, a member of drummer Tony Faulkner’s Jazz Orchestra.

The Richard Iles/Tim France Quintet features the unmissable top notch rhythm section of Richard Wetherall on keyboards, Pete Turner on double bass and drummer Eryl Roberts drums.
