The recycling plan that defies logic

You may be aware that Denbighshire County Council have shortlisted the area on the corner of the A525/Abergele straights roundabout, opposite a new hotel and restaurant, as their preferred site to implement their recycling plans, and enable them to achieve their recycling targets.
This site is proposed to encompass (and enable the closure of) the sites in Rhyl and Prestatyn.
The chosen site is in easy line of sight to and from the historic castle in Rhuddlan, an established tourist attraction.
The tourists who would have com
e to see the castle and stayed at the new hotel, are hardly likely to want to stay opposite to and eat in a restaurant 200 yards from a full recycling area.
The proposed expenditure to build a facility here defies all logic when there is an excellent recycling facility just two miles away, run by a private company, with room to expand as required.
Unfortunately it happens to be just over the Conwy border, and the Council appears to be unwilling or unable to enter into a partnership arrangement, just so that they can be seen to have a facility of their own.
I am sure that our council tax money has many competing demands on its use. Unnecessary duplication of a facility surely can not be a top priority.
If other readers also object to this, and want to see a more sensible approach to Denbighshire County Council's spending plans, you will be very welcome to join us in a march to highlight the issues on Sunday May 18 at 2pm, starting in the car park for Rhuddlan library on Vicarage Lane.
In the name of common sense, please join us.
