Parking puts off visitors

PARKING in Rhyl is high on everyone's list of concerns these days and it is a fact that it is not easy to get around town at the best of times.
There are too many cars parked on yellow lines while we have car parks lying empty. We need to make it easier for visitors and shoppers to our town to park with ease if we want them to come here, enjoy themselves, and visit our local shops and busine
sses.
The coach park on Crescent Road lies almost empty all week long and especially at weekends when most people visit Rhyl. There is no reason why this area cannot be used at weekends to provide up to 150 prime parking spaces for shoppers and, moreover, act as an incentive to attract visitors to our town.
In addition Blue Badge holders are not going to pay to use car parks when they can park on yellow lines for free and we need to give them an incentive if we want to keep our roadways clear and safe.
The underground car park in the Children's Village area is another parking area that is not used to its full potential because it is not very inviting or secure and is always full of litter.
We should make more use of the CCTV we have available and have regular security patrols to reassure drivers.
Working in parking for other local authorities I have seen how they have used yellow and white reflective paint to brighten up this type of car park and make it feel more inviting and safe. With good signs indicating it is security patrolled and covered by CCTV and a clean appearance this could be transformed.
We have plenty of traffic wardens in Rhyl and there is no reason why they could not be of assistance in providing a permanent visual presence in this car park.
