AS I approach my 85th birthday, I thought you might like to publish these details and pictures of me in the mid 1950s.
The picture was taken on the deck of the Duke of Edinburgh, one of the boats which took holidaymakers for short sea trips from Rhyl Beach until erosion of the sand below the Promenade destroyed the slopes which made embarkation possible both before and after the Second World War. By 1960 the trade was over.
I had been engaged in the trade for 11 years after four years of Army service in the war. having lived in Rhyl since 1923 before moving to Cornwall in 1958.
Having emigrated to Canada in 1982 (since when I have been widowed twice) I am still active in the boat business and own a small marina and large chandlery in Sidney, which is just north of Victoria on Vancouver Island.
I would be glad if anyone who remembers me would get in touch - email me at gartsidemarine@aol.com.
My business premises are at 2202 Harbour Road, Sidney, British Columbia. V8L 286. BC Canada. If you go on Google Earth it will show them as the first property on the north side of Harbour Road as it branches off from Resthaven Avenue.
