GLAM rock legends Slade are to headline the first ever Zip World Rocks charity festival this summer.

The Black Country band, famous for hits such as Cum On Feel The Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now, will top off an evening of music at Bethesda in the shadow of Zip World’s Velocity 2 zip line.

The group, comprised of founder members Dave Hill and Don Powell with ex-Mud bass guitarist John Berry and former sweet vocalist Mal McNulty, will top off a day of fundraising and fun on June 23.

Zip World Rocks is being held in partnership with Love Hope Strength, the charity founded by Mike Peters' rock band The Alarm, which holds the annual 'Snowdonia Rocks' walk fundraiser.

This year, the mountain walk is turning into an all-day event starting and finishing at Zip World, in the Penrhyn Quarry. Hikers will complete a 20km walk, with 48 fundraisers facing Velocity 2 at the end.

In the evening, the music includes Slade and Mike Peters of The Alarm, Band Pres Llareggub, male voice choir Cor Y Penrhyn and North Wales four-piece The Storyville Mob.

Love Hope Strength was founded by Peters over a decade ago after he vowed to climb Snowdon when he completed his initial treatment for leukaemia.

Proceeds from Snowdonia Rocks and Zip World Rocks will support LHS’s three grant schemes.

He said: “We’ve got a great line up of different musicians for Zip World Rocks.

"I’m so pleased these fantastic acts want to be part of this, and help bring people together and raise money.”

Sean Taylor, co-founder and director of Zip World said: “An evening of quality entertainment, an atmosphere like no other and a stunning setting - it will be unique in the UK festival calendar.”

Day hike tickets are £20 (free for under 18s) and evening music tickets £15.
