FOUR Welsh acts including Catrin Finch with Seckou Keita, 9Bach, Alaw and Gwyneth Glyn have been selected to showcase at the English Folk Expo and Manchester Folk Festival on from Thursday, October, 18 until Sunday, October 21.
This year, with the support of Arts Council of Wales, EFEx is presenting the Welsh artists alongside 40 or more English performers.
To be featured are 9bach, whose latest album Tincian includes nine of Lisa Jên’s own compositions, written and sung in Welsh and arranged in the folk tradition, The music also taps into elements of dub and rock.
Alaw are three musicians who present the traditional music of Wales. Oli Wilson-Dickson, Jamie Smith and Dylan Fowler have a long history of working together, sharing projects such as The Devil’s Violin, Szapora and The Ian McMillan Orchestra. Oli and Jamie are well known in the folk world as the frontline of Jamie Smith’s Mabon.
Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita is a critically acclaimed and multi award-winning collaboration between Welsh harpist Catrin Finch and Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita .
Gwyneth Glyn is a poet, singer and playwright. In her latest collection of songs, Tro, Gwyneth traces the journey back to her roots in Cardiff.
Manchester Folk Festival's first 2018 artists announced also include Billy Bragg, Coven, and The Wilsons.
