LIFEBOAT volunteers from Rhyl were invited to meet cast and crew of the Good Mourning Mrs Brown tour when the stage spin-off of Mrs Brown’s Boys arrived in Liverpool on the latest leg of its tour Brendan O’Carroll tour, star of hit the hit BBC TV comedy, revealed in March, when the show visited the Pavilion Theatre, that he would be donating £10,000 towards Rhyl’s new Shannon-class lifeboat.

Rhyl RNLI coxswain Martin Jones said of the VIP treatment at the Echo Arena: “After nine months, I am still in shock by the generosity of Brendan O’Carroll.

“It is such a humbling experience to have so many people support us.”

The £2.2 million Shannon class lifeboat, which was designed to replace the Mersey and Tyne class lifeboats, is the first modern all-weather lifeboat to be propelled by waterjets instead of traditional propellers, making her the most agile and manoeuvrable all-weather lifeboat yet. Reaching top speeds of 25 knots, the Shannon is nearly 50% faster than the Mersey, giving crews the ability to reach and assist casualties faster when time is of the essence.

Good Mourning Mrs Brown was held last month in Liverpool.
