A TOTAL of £4,000 in prize money will be up for grabs at this year's Llanfyllin Show.

The popular show, which takes place on Saturday, August 16, will also feature two display rings along with two star attractions, a car and motorbike stunt display team.

Held at Bodfach Hall park, the show this year celebrates its 137th birthday.

The star attraction is the Mega Minis stunt team, which will give two displays during the day.

The show consists of a large collection of modified minis, including double engine vehicles, grass track racers, 4x4s and modified racers, together with a variety of motocross bikes, quad bikes and off road racers.

Another popular attraction will be the parade by members of Mid Wales Vintage Machinery Club.

The show is anticipating a record entry in the horses section, which has 60 classes and the organisers are hoping to attract around 30 shire horses from across the country.

After the disappointment of having to cancel the livestock competitions last year due to Foot and Mouth Disease regulations, the show organisers are keeping their fingers crossed that Bluetongue Disease restrictions do not cause similar problems.

"It was a very good show last year because we were lucky with the weather, but we did miss the sheep entries," said show chairman Derwena Davies, "we are all looking forward to welcoming them back this year."

Another show highlight is the sheep shearing contest, which attracts high calibre shearers because it's the last of the qualifying events for the Royal Welsh Championship.

There will also be classes for YFC members in the sheep and cookery sections. Llanfyllin YFC members will be in buoyant mood after coming runners up in the national YFC entertainment competition in Blackpool recently.

Section secretaries are: sheep, Roland Davies, horticulture, Bethan Jones, cookery and crafts, Linsey Lewis, floral art, Pam Morris, horses, Janet Owen, entertainment, Wyn Jenkins, shearing, Gwylfa Jones, sheepdog trials, Huw Francis, trade stands, Ianto Jones and sponsorship, Peter Lewis.

Entries are now being accepted by secretary Olwen Roberts, who can be contacted on 01691 828523. More information is available on the show website at www.llanfyllinshow.com.
