FAMOUS names from the world of jazz will be descending on St Asaph in June for a phenomenal night of live entertainment.
North Wales Jazz Society are proudly presenting the star studded night on Thursday, June 5 at the Oriel House Hotel, and have attracted an impressive line-up of acts.
Topping the bill are guitarist Martin Taylor (left) and saxophonist Dave O'Higgins
who are giving their services voluntarily to keep the jazz flag flying in North Wales.
The award winning Martin Taylor has long been an internationally acclaimed musician, and his inimitable style has seen him recognized as the world's foremost exponent of solo jazz guitar playing.
Martin has enjoyed a remarkable musical career spanning four decades and has toured the world numerous times, playing coast to coast in the USA including Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.
He has worked with musicians as diverse as Chet Atkins, Bill Wyman, George Harrison, Dionne Warwick, Sacha Distel, Bryn Terfel and Jamie Cullum, and has recorded with Michel Legrand, Peggy Lee, Yehudi Menuhin and Nelson Riddle.
In 2002 Martin received an MBE for Services To Jazz and in 2007 was given the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Heart of Jazz Award in recognition of his career in music.
Later in June, Martin is to perform at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and an autumn tour of the USA and Canada has recently been announced.
Dave O'Higgins has a truly enviable list of achievements and has played all over the world.
He came to prominence in the late 80's with the renowned band, Roadside Picnic , also winning acclaim with his own trio, The Gang of Three.
A winner of the prestigious John Dankworth Award for Best Jazz Soloist and twice voted Best Tenor Sax at the British Jazz Awards, this year he has already performed in Canada and Germany and played several dates at London's Ronnie Scott's, and has a busy international touring schedule in June and July, with concerts in Scandinavia, South Africa and Spain.
Also appearing in the evening's line-up are Trefor Owen, Billy Thompson, Gary Potter, Dave Saltrese, Vic Blackwell and Andy Hulme with the rhythm section of Bill Coleman and Dave Hassell.
The music begins at 8pm. Tickets are available at the hotel and by telephoning the NWJS on 01745 812260.
