A visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg is on the cards for a group of Denbighshire secondary school students who used their creative writing talents to come out top in an essay competition.
The competition was arranged by the Europe Direct Llangollen, set up to promote European issues and educate people about the work of the EU.
Seven of the eight secondary schools in Denbighshire took part in the competition and students were asked t
o write an essay on "Europe: My Vision for the Future.
The 25 students, from Ysgol Dinas Bran (Llangollen), St Brigid's High School (Denbigh), Prestatyn High School, Ysgol Byrynhyfryd (Ruthin), Blessed Edward Jones High School (Rhyl) and Ysgol Glan Clwyd (St Asaph) attended a ceremony in Ruthin last week where they were awarded certificates of achievement by the out-going Chairman of Denbighshire, Councillor Ken Hawkins.
The students, who leave for Strasbourg on April 24, will take part in the Euroscola programme, which brings together secondary school students from the 27 European Union countries and allows them to gain an insight into the workings of the European Parliament.
They will be given an introduction to the European Parliament and the European Union and will be working in multi-lingual groups on issues in the Parliament Chamber.
