CONWY and Denbighshire's Trading Standards officers are urging everyone to be especially careful about how they dispose of personal mail and documents after papers containing personal information were spotted at a civic amenity site in Abergele.
The documents had been left on show by a member of the public but the information could have ended up in the wrong hands. The people who found them reported the matter to the site manager. People who don’t shred and dispose of their documents carefully face a real risk of becoming a victim of identity fraud which can have serious implications.

Denbighshire’s Principal Trading Standards Officer, Tony Young, said: “The more information they have about you, the better the personal profile they will have to work with.

Dave Beesley, Principal Trading Standards Officer at Conwy Council agrees: “It’s essential to take great care over storing and disposing of personal documents. Simple actions like shredding documents, redirecting mail and keeping papers under lock and key can make all the difference.”
