Couple's garden party day out

A MAN who served in the Russian convoys during wartime attended the Queen's Garden Party.
Harry Ratcliffe, 85, and wife Betty, 82 of Burns Drive, Rhyl, will celebrate 59 years of marriage this year and were invited after they were unable to attend a reception last year.
They ate the famous cucumber sandwiches for three hours on one of the summer's hottest days. Harry, who is a keen gardener, described the afternoon as "one of the best experiences" of his life and said the gardens were "lovely."
Betty said: "It was wonderful, the sandwiches and cakes were lovely and we had a prime seat watching people in their finery. There were lords and ladies, mayors and dukes...and then us. We didn't get to meet the Queen but we saw Princess Anne."
