A new partnership has been developed to tackle the issue of 1,800 empty homes throughout Denbighshire.
Denbighshire County Council and North Wales Housing Association to develop an Empty Homes Strategy for the county.
The partnership, the first of its kind in North Wales, will employ an Empty Homes Officer for an initial period of three years to t
ackle the problem and, if successful, it will become a long term project and could become a template for other authorities to follow.
A recent House Condition Survey of private sector houses in Denbighshire estimated there were 1,800 empty properties in the county.
Gareth Roberts, Denbighshire’s Housing and Area Renewal Manager, said: “Empty homes can have a significant impact on communities by resulting in anti social behaviour.
“It also reduces confidence and investment in the area as well as having a detrimental impact on the appearance of the area. Bringing these properties back into use can enhance the whole community.
“It is hoped that this new initiative will address these problems as well as helping owners to find the best way of bringing empty homes back into use and increasing the supply of affordable housing”.
