THE FOURTH Prestatyn and District Annual Walking Festival was another major success.
More than 1,000 walkers joined in the weekend-long festival, enjoying a wide variety of walks, excellent walking facilities and scenic views.
Martin Fearnley, chairman of the Prestatyn and District Walking Festival Committee, is delighted at the o
ngoing development of the event.
He said: “The festival just keeps getting bigger and better each year, with a total participation this year of 1,318, an increase of nearly 300 on last year.
“The weather was the best we have had and the introduction of a roman theme, introduced this year, also attracted more visitors from outside the area including Chester, Manchester, Macclesfield and others, even Pensylvania.”
There were more than 600 children involved from Prestatyn, Meliden and the surrounding areas, with Leah Baker, from Ysgol Melyd, and Luke Spellman, from Ysgol y Llys, winning competition prizes.
Mr Fearnley added: “As chairman of the committee, I would like to thank all fellow members of the committee, who it is a pleasure to work alongside. I would also like to thank all walkleaders, volunteers and other partners in helping make this event the best we have had and look forward to yet another successful festival next year, from May 15 to 17.”
The annual meeting of the festival committee is on Thursday, June 19 at 7.30pm in the guide headquarters in Prestatyn. All welcome.
