A GWESPYR caravan park has scopped a top tourism award as part of Flintshire Business Week.
Tree Tops Caravan Park was recently awarded the Flintshire Celebrates Business Tourism Award as Flintshire County Council Business Development Team wanted to showcase Flintshire business success and to this end organised a series of workshops and events to meet the diverse needs of local businesses.
Tree Tops Caravan Park won the Flintshire Celebrates Business Tourism Award 2007 as they demonstrated considerable benefit to the local economy by drawing customers from the UK and abroad. They clearly understand the importance of investment and growth, both financially and in terms of developing their workforce, while maintaining a balance with the local environment. At the presentation of the award, Tree Tops was described by Cllr Derek Butler as "a flagship business in Flintshire."
Tree Tops is a business success story spanning three generations of the same family. The Park was started in 1960 by John and Sian Owen in an effort to diversify from farming. In those days the park had just 60 units, but was amongst the first to incorporate main drainage and electricity, these are seen as standard today, but were seen as an innovation in their day.
The park was taken over by John and Sian's daughter Maureen Walker, some twenty years ago.
Maureen has been instrumental in growing Tree Tops into the successful business it is today, she is also the Chairman of the Clwyd branch of the British Holiday and Home Park Association which represents park owners and helps to direct the industry. In 2006 Andy Walker (Maureen's son) took over the role of General Manager at Tree Tops which maintain the continuity of the business for years to come.
Over the intervening years since the parks creation it been caringly and progressively developed, the objective being to exceed the ever increasing expectations of caravan owners. Other awards include Gold David Bellamy Award for sound environmental practices and Wales in Bloom winner for the last 15 years.
